The 21st Annual High School Art Exhibition, presented by Friends of the Yellow Barn Studio, provides young artists in the DC metropolitan area with the chance to be recognized and rewarded for their artistic excellence. The Friends of the Yellow Barn Studio, a nonprofit organization supporting the Yellow Barn, has hosted an annual high school art competition for the past 20 years.
The virtual, juried exhibition this year is a collection of fine art works by gifted high school students from 10 area high schools. Selecting the works this year is, Paul Spreiregan, a renowned Architect. Artists accepted in this show will receive a gift certificate for Art Supplies, with a top prize of $500, a second place award of $250, and a third place award of $150. All prizes are provided by Plaza Art Materials and from the financial support of Friends of the Yellow Barn.
Only forty works were selected for this prestigious exhibition by our distinguished juror, Paul Spreiregen. He was the first Director of Architecture and Design Programs at the National Endowment for the Arts. He has organized and conducted architectural design competitions, most notably the design competition for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the Mall.
In past years, it has been a privilege and honor for the Board of Directors to meet the talented student participants. We will miss seeing all the students personally this year. However we are excited to share their works online in the virtual show. Congratulations to the awardees!
