Richard Serra - Four Rounds: Equal Weight Unequal Measure

On June 23, Richard Serra's Four Rounds: Equal Weight, Unequal Measure, 2017 will join Glenstone's outdoor sculpture program. The work is housed in a new building by Thomas Phifer, architect of the pacvillions, designed in collaboration with the artist.

For more than fifty years, Serra has used abstract forms to consider the dynamic between material and the space shad by the viewer and the artwork. Four Rounds: Equal Weight, Unequal Measure is one work composed of four cylindical forms forged fom steel, each weighing 82 tons, but ranging in dimensions. The surface of each form carries a rich patina imprinted by the intense pressure of the forging process.
